Core Competencies and Our Last 2 Weeks

Music

The students have been studying Music twice a week with Sunny. Here is a description of a video that she created for you.

For the past few weeks in music class, children have been working on the music story called 'Eeba Streeba' by Lee Campbell-Towell.  The author uses the musical theme of a suite called 'The Carnival of the Animals' by Camille Saint-Saens.  Here's video recording of the students dancing and having fun to the music Eeba Streeba. Enjoy watching your children in action.

Communication, Creative and Critical Thinking as well as Personal and Social Responsibility

These are the 3 core competencies. The Ministry of Education and various stakeholders including Post Secondary institutions and leaders of industry met together to come up with a list of competencies that students will need in the future. These are at the centre of the new curriculum and the heart of education. To read more about them you can click on this link BC core competencies

In class over the past 2 weeks, we have been looking at each competency in depth. I have been rereading read aloud books that we have read over the year and we are connecting them to the core competencies. As part of the end of year evaluation, the students are filling in a self-evaluation based on the core competencies. This will continue for the students from K-12. The evaluation will come home with the report card.

Over the last 2 weeks

We will be doing some reader's theatre and acting out plays, we will be sharing our memories from the year. We are going to write instructions for creating a LEGO structure and we may have time to write a book as well.
We will enjoy the sunshine and take the prisms outside and we will have a beach day in the class as well as head to Transfer beach on June 27th. I will send home the permission slip for that trip early next week. I am waiting until I have all the responses for the Water Park trip.
