Our week about trees!

As you may remember we had a wonderful sunny day on Monday. We went to the forest to collect things that fall from trees. We came back with a large and varied collection of items.  We found pine and fir cones, leaves as well as bits of branches. We also collected moss and lichen that the children found interesting. On Tuesday we read a book about the forest "L'arbre: Un petit monde plein de vie", This book explains everything from how a tree grows to the animals who live in and around trees and including how trees give back to the soil and nurture new growth after they die. The children then used magnifying glasses to look in detail at the items we had gathered and drew 3 items in detail.  Wednesday morning the children went back to the collection and pick items to play with to make a story about the forest. These stories came home earlier this week. Some children wrote fictional stories while other children chose to write about what they saw in the forest.   T...

Addition Practice and Personal Writing

 Personal Writing We have started a unit focusing on writing about personal moments, things that we have seen, done, or had done to us (haircut, tooth pulled etc). We are using Robert Munsch stories as our anchor books as he wrote about children and events based in everyday activities.  The children are encouraged to break a moment into four parts, each part is one idea. As an idea is typically a sentence, we are working on using punctuation at the end of an idea and capitals to start the next idea. We are also practicing using vocabulary that describes the time that has passed e.g. one day, then, while, over, under, on etc.  We will also be practicing adding dialogue to our writing. Reopening of school

Welcome back (again!) 😀 In- class changes If you are returning to school, you will have received this information in an email. I thought I would put it here on the website for easy reference.  There are a few changes for our restart: please bring a FULL water bottle, the water fountains have been shut off all plastic containers and compost will return home in the lunch kit as recycling and compost has been suspended at the school please send your child dressed for the weather (rain/ sun and hot) as we are to be outside as much as possible NO agendas at this time. I will continue to communicate by email and the website.  Drop off and Pick up Drop off -School start is now  8:15  . We need to have a staggered start, we will no longer be lining up and waiting for the bell with the aim to create distance between the children. I will open the class door at 8:15.
