As we break for Summer

Some Learning Tools

As we finish the wonderful year together, I want to connect you with some tools and activities to support your child throughout the summer.

Please do not feel that these activities need to be part of a daily routine, as I well know summer can get busy and routines change from week to week.

If you choose, explore the site, see what interests your child and what they gravitate to. It is all there as resources for you as wanted or needed.

Library

First of all the local library 📚 has started its summer reading club for kids. Having the reading club was always a great incentive for my kids and me to drop in weekly and get new books.

Also if you contact Susan Wade (our librarian) swade@sd79.bc.ca she is willing to arrange for books to come home over the summer. Of course there isn't a chance to exchange them until fall.😁

Website

As I said have an explore of the site and see what resource will work for you. Here is a quick synopsis of the pages, if you would like, but you really don't have to read any further, you can just dive in.

Everyday Things

This page of the website has suggestions of how you can incorporate "school learning" into things you are doing with and around your child all the time.

Read at Home

If your child needs support with reading or writing these tools will help.

On this page there are links to the Boulkili reading app, word lists and Kalulu letter sound practice. With the word list you can have your child make up cards with the words and play go fish, use them to make a hopscotch outside or write a silly story. You can read the Kalulu pages online or print them and take them on the go. Boukili has books that your child can read and then listen to the book to hear how accurate they were reading.

Learning Activities

This is a general page that has many websites with ideas for being outside, reading, math and games for Oral French practice.

Songs

We didn't do a lot of singing this year, however, that doesn't mean that you can't explore these playlists and sing along! This is a great way to expand your child's oral language.
